Kicking off our list of the most expensive comic books in the world is Showcase #4. In this issue, a brand new superhero emerges, that goes by the name of Barry Allen, or the Silver Age Flash. His character proved to be a big success which led to his own title shortly after. The comic book was published in 1956t and sold in 2009 for a whopping $179,250. Most Expensive Comic Books – Suspense Comics #3 became the most valuable non-superhero comic book in 2015 when it sold for $173,275. Released in 1944, shop keepers decided not to stock it, due to its offensive cover, which featured a woman about to be attacked by hooded assailants bearing swastikas. As a result, copies are scarce today which is why this comic book is now one of the most expensive comic books in the world!
The Princess of the isolationist Amazons, Wonder Woman is one of the most powerful heroes in the DC universe and a leading member of the Justice League. Many comic books have been heavily influenced by her and she is widely considered to be the archetype for the superheroine. Strong female characters such as Power Girl, Storm, Captain Marvel and Vixen all draw huge inspiration from Wonder Woman. Her original origins depicted her as having been a clay figure, crafted by her mother, and given life by the Greek Gods. More recent versions have seen her re-imagined as the daughter of Zeus and the Amazon queen Hippolyta. Her divine origins are the source of her incredible strength and make her one of the few Members of the Justice League to be in the same League (excuse the pun) as Superman or the Martian Manhunter, although her raw strength is generally accepted to being greater than either of these.
Big 2 crossover events can be hit or miss, depending on your taste and your personal breadth of superhero knowledge. Since they often rely on past storylines and involve multiple books, they can be an awkward place to jump in, but if you find the right one, you can get up to speed rather quickly. Devil’s Reign is one of those stories. Although he’s managing a lot of moving parts, Zdarsky does a great job juggling a hefty cast of heroes and villains all while ramping up tensions between Kingpin and Daredevil. The story has a timely hook and provides an easy entry point to the current Marvel Universe lineup, legacy characters and all. No spoilers here, but it’s always fun when supervillains team up and with Devil’s Reign, there is no shortage of bad guys. See even more info on https://onlinecomicbookstore.com/.
